Missoula Conservation District is offering a cost-share program for natural resource improvement within Missoula County.

Funding:

Maximum cost-share funding allowed per project is $5,000.  Cost share rates:

District:  -75% maximum provided by Missoula CD (with set maximum costs allowed per practice).

Applicant:  -25% minimum provided by applicant.  Applicant portion can be in the form of cash, in-kind services (i.e. labor), or from other conservation cost-share programs.

District cost-share funds combined with other funds cannot exceed the overall allowable cost of a practice.

Limitations:

There will be a limit of one project/person or group/year (private sector only). 

All projects must be completed within one year of approval. 

The proposed project must be located within Missoula County.

Eligible Practices:

Only on-the-ground practices are eligible.

No money is available for research or studies. 

Examples of projects that would be considered for funding:

     Stream/Fisheries Improvements:

  • Bridge/Culvert replacement/upgrade
  • Diversion replacement/upgrade
  • Fish Screen Installation
  • Grade stabilization structures (to control grade and head cutting)
  • Irrigation delivery ditch upgrade
  • Riparian forest buffers
  • Streambank/shoreline protection
  • Stream channel stabilization/vegetation

     Wildlife Habitat Improvements:

  • Restoration and improvement of native plant communities
  • Wetland restoration
  • Wildlife habitat improvement (improving food, water or cover for wildlife)
  • Wildlife Corridor

     Erosion Control:

  • Filter strips (vegetation planted to remove sediment, organic matter or other pollutants from runoff/wastewater)
  • Grassed waterways
  • Grass/forb seedings
  • Tree/Shrub planting
  • Wildfire rehabilitation measures (planting of trees/shrubs/native grasses)

     Uplands Improvement:

  • Fencing (cross fencing or fencing of riparian areas for livestock management)
  • Fire protection/prevention
  • Forest site preparation
  • Forest stand improvement (pre-commercial thinning)
  • Mountain pine beetle forest treatment
  • Pest management/weed control
  • Reforestation (planting conifers)
  • Spring development
  • Stockwater Pipeline to Stocktank(s)
  • Tree/shrub planting
  • Trough or tank (provide drinking water to livestock/wildlife)

Many of the above-mentioned practices are applicable to more than one category of resource improvement. Other ideas and practices not listed may also be considered.

Program Information:

Missoula Conservation District will accept applications for the 2013 Cost-Share Program through August 2012.

Application deadline is September 1, 2012 for the 2013 Cost-Share Program.

Contracts will be awarded by January 2013.

All applicants will be notified whether or not they have been funded.
